We warmly invite you to the charity event ‘A Piece of Heaven for Rafael’, which will take place on 30 July at Střecha Budějc. The children’s programme starts at 6 pm, and from 8 pm you can look forward to a concert by the band Couple of Sound.
At the same time, we are launching a public fundraising campaign to support the Rafael charity, which has been helping abandoned, sick and elderly dogs for over ten years. The charity was founded in 2013 by Iva Volková following her successful battle with cancer. She dedicated her life to animals that had nowhere to go and to those she wanted to give love, care and a dignified home.
The shelter has already cared for 145 dogs. When Iva’s illness returned, she focused her care primarily on elderly and sick dogs, helping them to enjoy a peaceful and safe twilight of their lives. In total, she accompanied 51 dogs on their final journey.
On 25 April 2026, she too passed away after a serious illness. Following her death, eight elderly dogs remained, who are now looked after by her daughter Markéta and her friend Petra. Every day, they provide them with intensive care – from administering medication and special food to endless love and cuddles.
